Dr. Asheikh Maidugu
Dr. Asheikh Maidugu was born in Shekau village of Yobe State in 1969 and commenced his educational journey at Abbaganaram Primary School, Maiduguri from 1976 to 1981 and thereafter proceeded to Government Comprehensive Technical School, Konduga, Borno State from 1981 to 1986 for his secondary education. He enrolled into the University of Maiduguri from where he obtained a BSc in Economics in 1991 and a Masters’ degree in Money, Trade and Finance in 1998. A further quest for knowledge took him to Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto from where he obtained a PhD in Development Economics in 2004.
Dr Asheikh started his working career with the Yobe State Scholarship Board as an Internal Auditor. He resigned in 1994 and joined University of Maiduguri as a Graduate Assistant where he lectured for 13 years in the Department of Economics and rose to the position of Senior Lecturer. In 2007, Dr. Asheikh resigned from the University and joined the Debt Management Office from where he joined FIRS in July, 2010 as Director in charge of Planning, Research & Statistics. He briefly served as a Special Adviser to the Honourable Minister of State for Finance, Federal Ministry of Finance, Abuja on secondment from 2011 to 2014. On his return to FIRS, Dr. Asheikh was posted as Director Career & Skills Development Department and later redeployed to Planning, Research & Statistics.
From December, 2019 to March, 2020, he doubled as Director in charge of Planning, Research & Statistics and Special Assistant on Special Duties to the Executive Chairman. In March, 2020 he was appointed Coordinating Director, Executive Chairman’s Group and in September, 2020 redeployed to Digital Support Group responsible for digitalization and modernization of tax administrations business processes in FIRS.
Dr. Asheikh is a member of Nigeria Economic Society (NES), A Fellow of Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) and a member of National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos, Senior Executive Course 40, 2018. He has attended several courses and workshops both local and international including Royal Institute of Public Administration, London, United Kingdom and the prestigious Harvard Kennedy School, Boston, USA. He is also an author and publisher of articles in local and international Journals some of which includes “An Assessment of the Performance of Development Finance Institutions in Nigeria: Case Study of the Borno State Investment Company Limited”, “Trade, Industry and Public Policy”, “Privatization of Nigerian Public Enterprises: Concept, Problems and Recommendations” among others.
Dr. Asheikh is happily married with children.
