The Lagos state governor, Babatunde Fashola, on Tuesday condemned the enlisting of the Federal Inland Revenue Service as a plaintiff in the case between some Lagos based hotelier and the state government over the disputed Hotel Occupancy and Restaurant Consumption Tax being levied in the state.
‘Should a federal authority be invoked to stop the implementation of a federation state’s law? We will not succumb to this but will pursue the case to a logical conclusion,’ he said while speaking the third Lagos State taxation stakeholders’ conference.
Mr Fashola implored all Lagos residents to cooperate with the state government because ‘tax is the only means to redistribute wealth’ since government ie empowered to tax residents, he explained, the kind of debate that should, therefore, be brought to the roundtable is tax rates and implementation.
