CATA 2010 BRINGS THE WORLD TO NIGERIA...FIRS, IS DRIVER
The Planning Committee of the 31st Technical Conference of the Commonwealth Association of Tax Administrators hereby brings to the attention of all staff of FIRS the following information on the conference.
1. CATA’s 31st Technical Conference would be held in Nigeria from 10th to 16th October, 2010 at the Transcorp Hilton Hotels, Abuja.
2. The broad objectives of the Conference are as follows:
i. To educate Nigerians on tax matters.
ii. To share knowledge and experience on best practices from participating countries.
iii. To leverage on the persons from the different countries and obtain direct tax information for improvements of treaty network.
iv. To showcase Nigeria using the slogan, “Good People, Great Nation” and celebrate her 50th independence anniversary.
3. CATA 2010 would focus on two broad topics of contemporary relevance in tax administration.
i. Widening the tax revenue base through exchange of information – domestic and international.
ii. Taxation of specialised sectors:
a. Financial sector such as banking, insurance, etc;
b. Energy, including oil and gas;
c. Air and shipping services;
d. Telecommunications;
e. Agro-based business.
4. Management has also approved the composition of the following eight sub-committees to advance the overall objectives of a successful CATA 2010 hosting by Nigeria:
i. Logistics and Accommodation
ii. Protocol and Transportation
iii. Finance
iv. Quality Assurance
v. Security
vi. Secretariat and Support Services
vii. Technical
viii. Publicity and Publication.
These sub-committees have been meeting regularly on their assigned tasks.
5. An active website has been set up for the purpose with the address: www.cata2010.org.ng CATA 2010 e-mail is: cata@commonwealth.int Members of staff are enjoined to utilise these addresses regularly and come up with ideas for a successful hosting.
